Methadone Addiction vs. Methadone Dependency
Methadone Addiction kills. Current
statistics show that nearly 4000 people a year die from Methadone.
Methadone is most often prescribed to manage chronic pain
or to help a patient control addiction to opiates such as
heroin and opioid-based prescriptions.
Patients with Methadone addiction continue treatment for
years, fearing that agonizing withdrawal will occur once
they stop.
We believe that Methadone addiction / dependency creates
a central nervous system disorder, caused by continuous intake.
After prolonged Methadone intake, the nerve cells in the
brain, which would otherwise produce endogenous opiates (natural
painkillers, or endorphins), cease to function normally.
The body stops producing endorphins because it is receiving
Methadone instead. The degeneration of these nerve cells
results in the user's physical dependency to an external
supply of opiates. Abrupt or sudden abstinence from Methadone
induces yet another traumatic disorder - withdrawal syndrome.
Ryan C., a 21 year-old Maine resident, wanted to break his
recreational OxyContin dependency. A local Methadone clinic
put Ryan on a low dose of Methadone to replace the OxyContin
addiction. When he became tolerant of the effects of the
Methadone, clinic doctors gradually quadrupled his dose over
two years what cause a Methadone addiction.
"I could not understand why they kept increasing my
dose when I was supposed to be getting the drugs out of my
system," said Ryan.
A patient's vulnerability, complicated by insufficient supervision
and psychological support, can result in a progression of
their Methadone addiction and dependency. Ryan left that
clinic and sought help for his Methadone addiction through
the Waismann Method of Rapid detox under anesthesia.
The Waismann Method of rapid detoxification is performed
in the Intensive Care Unit in a Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accredited hospital,
where an experienced, specially trained nursing staff monitors
each patient closely. Our physicians are each Board Certified
Anesthesiologists who are specialists in pain management
with extensive experience in Methadone detoxification. Our
expert doctors have performed thousands of detoxifications
under anesthesia.
The Waismann Method for Rapid Detoxification from Methadone
Addiction
Thanks to an increased medical understanding of Methadone
addiction and dependency, patients no longer have to rely
on excruciating and lengthy detox methods or ineffective
and addictive opiate substitutes.
Now, patients can resume their lives opiate-free.
